It seems like web stores are trying to learn from past mistakes - including misplaced and delayed deliveries - and are aggressively wooing customers. Still, it's good to be careful, as usual.
Some tips before you turn into a webby Santa this year:
LATER SHOPPING DATES: Many stores are delaying the dates by which you have to order to get the items by Christmas. In some cases, Dec. 18 (for standard shipping) and Dec. 23 (for overnight delivery), which are two days later than the dates last year. This is really convenient, especially since Hannukah is later this year than last year. Two stores offering this are RedEnvelope.com - and SharperImage.com -
BIG SPENDERS?: Turns out last-minute shoppers tend to spend more, perhaps not looking as closely for bargains or just because they are trying to catch up in a hurry. So my advice is to do it as quickly as possible, so you don't end up spending more than you planned. Easy for me to say - I am a notorious last-minuter.
READ THE FINE PRINT: Too many shoppers don't notice the substitutions, caveats, and exceptions that are on many sites. Please read, folks, and if you aren't getting exactly what you want, then please walk - er, surf away.
